Unreal Tournament III

Unreal Tournament 3 has been around on the PC for ages, and more recently made the switch to the PS3, but now it's XBox 360's turn to join the battle.

You get all the downloadable content from the PC and PS3 versions on the disc, including the classic maps Morbius and Facing Worlds. If that wasn’t enough, there’s another five maps exclusive to the 360, a couple of new characters and split screen multiplayer options.

The story is irellevent as it is only there to group together the tournament arena matches which you’ll tackle as part of a military exercise. It’s good that a single player story mode has been considered, but at the end of the day all we want is to be shown the maps and let us get on with it. The matches come in a variety of types - All Against All and Team Deathmatch are self-explanatory, Capture The Flag ( or the field lattice generator as it is now called) is classic, Warfare Mode is like a refined version of Onslaught Mode involving a series of nodes linked to each team’s power core which you must destroy to win the match.

There’s a formidable selection of vehicles available in the game, from small one-man crafts to larger machines that can accomodate the driver and one or more gunners. The general rule of thumb is the bigger the vehicle the better. Lots of the classic weapons feature, but the piece de resistance is the Redeemer which releases a small nuke.

The downside of the 360 version of UT3 is that there’s currently no support for user-generated content, although apparently the developers Epic are pushing for Microsoft to allow this, but otherwise its a great game and worth the wait. As a multiplayer game UT3 is one of the best and the port to the 360 has been a smooth one.
