Quantum Of Solace
James Bond has been the subject of many titles since the dawn of videogames and, with the exception of the classic Goldeneye, many have failed to live up to the expectations of gameplaying Bond fans.
The plot is based on the new Quantum of Solace movie, but has more to do with events in Casino Royale, which does get a bit confusing at times. It uses the Call Of Duty 4 engine and it shows, with top notch graphics and framerate.
Audio is excellent, with voice-overs from Daniel Craig himself plus Dame Judi Dench, and Eva Green, and the classic Bond theme running in the background.
AI is predictable and less than perfect at times, but the environments are good enough to cover up this flaw, although there are too many exploding barrels scattered about the place.
A cover system has been added to the original COD format, allowing your character to jump behind objects and allowing you to view Bond in his tuxedo from a third-person perspective. But it isn’t perfect and if you’re like me you’ll find yourself cursing it every time you get picked off by the bad guys when you were certain you were hidden.
Multiplayer is where its at though and you’ll find yourself limited to this after completing the single-player mode in as little as six hours. Among the choices are Golden Gun mode which involves players fighting for a gold Magnum and Bond Versus deathmatch mode. Credits from multiplayer games can be spent on new weapons and gadgets but other than that there’s no real reward system.
Quantum Of Solace is unfortunately let down by its single-player mode and while multiplayer is a fun experience you’ll find yourself stirred rather than shaken by the experience.
