Smackdown vs Raw 2009
You know its nearly Christmas when the 2009 edition of your favourite wrestling game hits the shelves.
Smackdown vs Raw has been the number one title in the genre for a few years now and ceelbrates its 10th anniversary this time around, so how can it improve year on year?
This year the game includes over 60 wrestlers and 14 one-on-one match types, plus a brand new tag team experience, allowing players to build momentum and attributes, eliminate opponents with high impact double teams and finishers, as well as get the ’hot tag’ for the win.
Also new for 2009 is the ’Create A Finisher’ feature which allows players to customise all aspects of their wrestler, including their unique signature finishing moves.
Inferno match sees you battle it out in a ring surrounded by flames. As you successfully pull off moves the temperature rises until it gets to 500 degrees when you are able to throw your opponent into the fire. It’s a lot of fun.
But the game’s outstanding feature for me is the new story mode - Road to WrestleMania. You pick from one of seven superstars and play out their unique story, complete with original voiceovers and cutscenes.
If it hadn’t been for Road to WrestleMania I would have advised against SvR 2008 owners upgrading, but this really does justify buying the game yet again.
With the promise of downloadable content for the very first time in the series, Smackdown vs Raw 2009 is worth the pocket money.
