Mirror's Edge

EA's first-person action platformer has attracted a lot of attention since early gameplay footage was revealed.

The brightly-coloured, glossy parkour-style game promised a lot, but it hasn’t really delivered.

The trial and error gameplay gets frustrating quite quickly

Your character, Faith, is a runner carrying sensitive deliveries from one location to another as she also attempts to seek justice for her sister who has been framed for the murder of a mayoral candidate promising to bring change to the totalitarian government.

As you run across roof tops and along walls you pick up speed and are able to string a number of moves together in combos.

This is all done in first-person mode which is fun, but would look much better in third-person from over Faith’s shoulder in my opinion.

The game’s best modes are beat-your-record races and level speedruns, where you can compete for a place in online leaderboards.

Graphics are stunning, as we knew they would be, but audio is also brilliant, with a pumping soundtrack to match the thrill of the running.

Mirror’s Edge should be praised for doing something different from the current deluge of first-person shooters, but unfortunately it falls short of being a game to rave over.
