Tak 2: Staff Of Dreams
Staff Of Dreams is sequel to Tak and the Power of Juju - a harmless, fun-to-play platformer that surfaced a year ago. As with most sequels, this game changes very little in the way of gameplay, but expands the levels to create a bigger challenge.
After a rather lengthy cut scene you are dropped into Dream World, which looks like a scene straight from a Salvador Dali painting. This allows you to lean the basics such as double-jumping, throwing, fighting etc.
Once complete you are dropped back into the real world, which is a lot brighter than the original game. Using Juju powers and empowering animals to help solve puzzles, Tak must recover the Staff of Dreams and defeat Tlaloc once and for all.
Many of the puzzles require a fair bit of thinking about, such as the time when Tak has to chase a skunk in order to get 'stinked' so he can get a bear to throw him across a ravine. It's all very hit and miss and can take a while to solve, but isn't that what platformers are all about?
In addition to the main environment, there are several mini-adventures that need to be completed along the way, including a very fast water rapids section where you try to steer Tak's barrel to avoid rocks and logs as you career dowen the waterfall.
As with nearly all 3D platformers, there's a slight issue with camera angles when close to walls and rocks, but this doesn't deter too much from the enjoyment of the game.
Staff Of Dreams manages to appeal to both kids and adults, offering a fairly generous learning curve for younger players. With the addition of unlockable mini-games, Staff Of Dreams has the longevity that many other kids' titles don't.
