Juiced

Do we really need another modded street racing title on the market? Juiced may have been a great game if it had managed a release last year when Acclaim were still alive and kicking.

After the collapse of Acclaim, Juiced was swiftly scooped up by THQ although since then it has missed so many deadlines we were starting to believe it would never make it out of the garage.

Now it is here, it is somewhat of an anti-climax. Graphics are nice, with cool blurring effect, audio is adequate with a decent soundtrack to listen to while you’re in action, but it doesn’t stand out from the pack.

On a positive note, it is good to finally see a game which penalises you for damage to your car. Even the best sims such as Forza and Gran Turismo gloss over the fact that your motor needs to be repaired between races.

Unfortunately, this is also one of Juiced’s problems. If you’re a little careless behind the wheel you’ll soon find your repair bills eating away at your bank balance, forcing you out of many of the pay-to-enter races, leaving you flicking through the calendar looking for freebie challenges.

Juiced ticks all the boxes of a street racing arcade game, but fails to bring anything new to the table. Twelve months is a long time in the gaming industry and a few souped-up challengers have left Juiced on the starting line.
