Madagascar

All animated movies need a spin-off console title, and Madagascar is no different.

That is the golden rule and Activision have created a decent game, if you’re between 8 and 12 that is, but rather than using original clips from the movie, however, Madagascar uses game footage.

Without ruining the storyline of the movie for those who intend to see it, the game follows the plot very closely, with 10 levels to progress through. You automatically switch between characters depending upon the task at hand and complete fairly straightforward tasks to unlock the next level.

Whether you’re jumping through hoops as Alex the lion, racing ostriches as Gloria the hippo, kicking the crap out of security staff as Marty the zebra or spinning your way around your compound as Mellman the giraffe, this game is well and truly targetted at the younger audience.

Possibly the most enjoyable level involves a penguin who thinks he is Sam Fisher. Stealth tactics are needed to overcome the sailors on a covert operation on an ocean liner.

There’s nothing innovative here and, while the levels themselves are quite lengthy, it won’t be long before you complete the game. However, unlockable extras help should help keep the interest until the next blockbuster animated movie gets the console makeover.
