Restricted Area

Set in the year 2083, when the world is united under a common government. mega-corporations rule the barren lands and wastelands.

You can choose to play one of four characters armed with cyber-ware and bio-ware implants, fighting for recognition in this Restricted Area.

Using standard bindings, the only control you need is the left mouse button, to move/attack/pick up items, although you can bind actions such as use combat drug and use med kit to middle and right mouse buttons. With these bindings, over 95 percent of the time is used just clicking the left mouse button over and over and over…

Of course, repetitive controls are nothing without repetitive game play. Most levels go something like this: land in a desert (which looks exactly the same as the last location), make your way to an entrance, and walk around a few levels of the building which look exactly the same other than the layout, then either click a crate or kill someone, end level.

AI enemies (which are also mostly the same level to level) generally walk in a straight line towards you and can often get stuck in doorways and on wall edges, which can make for some interesting battles where you can hit them but they can not hit you. When NPCs become out of range a catch up type feature is enabled, which is that they simply reappear behind you.

For an isometric RPG-type view, the game is graphically quite good. The rain, fog, smoke and dust are actually quite believable, even though the recommended system requirements are far lower than the majority of computers that are available and in use today.

As with most RPG games, you still get the urge to level up your character. If you stick only to the main story quests and not pick up the side quests available from other NPCs walking about the levels do look different and can actually be quite fun. You may still need to run through a side quest at least a few times though, to level up your character if you do not clear every room.

If you like ‘Diablo’ type games it could be worth picking this one up, otherwise it might be worth waiting for the price to drop a bit further before having another look.
