MX vs ATV: On The Edge

THQ's off road racer has made its way from the console to Sony's handheld and there's a few new features to boot.

In addition to the original courses, there’s eight new tracks for the PSP, bringing the total to over 50.

There are three modes to the single player game. Free ride lets you wander off on your own and practice your jumps, tricks and landings, freestyle lets you put that practice to good use in a timed tricks event where the braver you are the more points you’ll rack up.

Finally, race mode does what it says on the tin. There are seven race modes, although only supercross and nationals are initially available, with the other five being unlocked as you progress.

Graphics are excellent, with driver detail, vehicle detail and ragdoll animations looking the part. Audio is good too, with background music from the likes of the Black Eyed Pease and Nickelback to keep you tapping your feet as you play.

What does let this title down is the long loading times, and we mean long! We are used to the slightly longer wait with PSP games as the UMD spins away, but MX vs ATV really will test your patience.

But overall this is a pretty good console conversion, and should appeal to any PSP owners who like their racing games.
