Bad Day L.A.
Well, I can see what they were trying with this. I just don’t like it, you may well do. I don’t like Noel Edmonds but millions of others do, so there is always the chance you will enjoy ‘Bad Day L. A.’.
Anyway, you play a homeless man, Anthony Williams, who is thrust into the role of Saviour when biological weapon-laden planes crash into various areas of the cities. To do this, he must roam these areas spraying people with fire extinguishers and battering enemies with a tyre iron. He does this in a quirkily animated graphical style, which varies from exquisite to excruciating.
Humour is at the forefront of this game and this is where it could well fall down for a lot of people. It is a personal thing – you could love the jokes or you could hate them. You’d have to try the game out to see whether you can stand them. It isn’t hard to see what I thought of the comedic nature of the game, but I will let you make up your own mind on this one.
One could question whether this title is suitable for PC release – it is obviously console-led and will no doubt sell far more on these other platforms. The very fact that “auto-aim” is, by default, turned on is proof enough. The gameplay is simplistic and hardly challenging, at least in the portions I played. You may well enjoy it if you don’t think about what you are actually doing, but those seeking any depth to their gaming should look elsewhere.
