Broken Sword: The Angel of Death
One of the longest running adventure game series, the Broken Sword saga has twisted and turned around the globe. From Syria to Scotland, the floppy-haired American lawyer, George Stobbart, has thwarted numerous cults and gangsters over the years.
Now, Stobbart is struggling to make ends meet in his native America. If this wasn’t the beginning of another Broken Sword game, you’d feel sorry that he had fallen upon hard times. However, it isn’t long before he is approached by a mysterious woman, Anna Maria, and his adventures begin again in earnest. Nico is still in there somewhere, but details are scarce about what role she will play in the story.
"Angel of Death" won’t have Slayer on the soundtrack, unsurprisingly, but it will be a PC-only release. It will also mark a return to more traditional adventuring methods - point and click, for example. Charles Cecil, Revolution supremo, regrets the way in which the third Broken Sword game moved into 3D - too many box puzzles and the ditching of the traditional point and click interface. The new game returns to what he sees as the core values of the very first game in the series, although it still apparently contains box puzzles! You can’t have everything, I suppose.
Fans of the series are likely to be camping outside Revolution’s offices, beating down the doors until they are satiated with boxed copies of the game. For others who haven’t experienced the series before, it will certainly be well worth a look if you enjoy a game with a good storyline and involving characters.
