Infected
It's taken almost a year for THQ to bring Planet Moon's bloodfest to the UK. This is an action-packed zombie shooter, with little in the way of a storyline but fortunately a multiplayer mode to save its bacon.
Your role is to cleanse the mean streets of New York of flesh-hungry zombies using two guns - one to weaken them with good old-fashioned bullets and the other to zap them with your viral gun. Combos can be achieved by blasting a zombie, causing blood splash damage to all around it.
There’s 35 missions in all, from protecting other peace officers to rescuing civilians, but the gameplay remains the same - blast the freaks!
If you’re looking for a multiplayer game you may get a bit more joy. Ad Hoc mode allows for up to eight players to locally play deathmatch, team deathmatch, Saviour (where you are required to save citizens while avoiding attack from your opponent) and an amusing Mad Cow game that involves dressing up as a bovine creature and staying alive for as long as possible. Infrastructure mode hooks you up to the net for one-on-one deathmatch, but not much else I’m afraid.
The one innovative aspect of both multiplayer modes is the ’Chain Infections’ system, whereby winning players pass on their unique avatars to their opponents’ PSP’s. If infected by another player, the gamer will find his avatar running around fighting in his single and multiplayer game.
There’s plenty of dark humour, blood and guts in this title. Not for the queasy or those prone to nightmares!
