PS3 Portal 2 to come with free PC/Mac version

You already knew you would be buying Portal 2, but Sony and Valve have made the PlayStation 3 version an impressive value for gamers. Not only do you get the PS3 version with full Steam integration, but you’ll get a free copy of the game for the PC and Mac OS X by linking your PlayStation Network and Steam accounts. You’ll also be able to chat, and play with, friends and enemies on the PC and Mac versions of the game. Your game saves can be kept in the cloud to be accessed from any system.

“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product,” said Gabe Newell, cofounder and president of Valve. “Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”

Steam on the PS3 sounds easy and powerful. “PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites,” said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve.
